8/22/2023 0 Comments Upside down katana png![]() ![]() When compared with other styles of Japanese swordsmanship, Tamiya-ryu places a greater emphasis on the beauty of technique. Techniques used are usually large and sweeping arcs with particular attention paid to the smallest of details. As the sword used in Tamiya-Ryu has a slightly longer hilt than an average katana, Tamiya-ryu is centered around keeping your opponent at a distance where you can attack them, but they cannot reach you. Tamiya-RyuĪ lot of the emphasis of Tamiya-ryu is based upon the drawing of the sword. Shinkage-ryu is an extremely offensive style and uses a long thin blade, ideal for adaptability and not forced in to a single style of striking. Much like Niten Ichi-ryu, Shinkage-ryu also has a throwing technique to catch your opponent off guard during battle. It is heavily based towards adapting to both your environment and your opponent in order to win a duel, rather than focus on perfect form and kata. The most cerebral of traditional Japanese sword fighting techniques, Yagyu Shinkage-ryu is a style designed to win at any cost. When Jigen-ryu was most popular in feudal Japan, apprentices of the art are said to have been made to practice 10000 strikes per day. The basis of this single strike technique is to begin in the dragonfly stance and cut your opponent through their neck downwards and diagonally. An all or nothing style, Jigen-ryu teaches that you should not even consider a second strike. Jigen-ryu is the most aggressive form of samurai swordsmanship and is based around killing the opponent in a single strike whilst screaming a kiai. The fact that Mugai-ryu only has 13 techniques excluding variations shows Sukemochi’s opinion on teaching what actually works in battle rather than excess and “untruthful” forms. Like most other sword fighting styles, Mugai-ryu is an art filled with kenjutsu techniques and is mostly fought with the katana. Mugai-Ryuįounded by Tsuji Gettan Sukemochi in 1680, Mugai-ryu is an unlikely but successful method of sword fighting since its founder was a zen buddhist who reached enlightenment aged 32. Musashi was even known to throw the wakizashi to finish duels when necessary, a tactic that was not widely used at all. When performed successfully, the opponent has no defense as they’re only using a single sword. An example of this would be using the wakizashi to defend whilst counter-attacking with the katana. Many styles of Japanese swordsmanship use only the katana, but Niten Ichi-rye uses both. A rough translation of this style is known as “two heavens as one”. The 8 Styles Of Samurai Sword Fighting Hyoho Niten Ichi-RyuĬreated by the most famous samurai in Japanese history and the author of “The Book Of Five Rings” Miyamoto Musashi, Niten Ichi-ryu is a style based around the use of 2 swords at once. If the last of a samurai family died, their techniques often died forever with them, whilst the victor’s styles still live on today. These samurai families were the rulers of Japan and many had their own styles of swordsmanship.Īs expected, some styles died out, whilst others thrived under the most brutal test of effectiveness. Once upon a time there were millions of samurai from hundreds of thousands of families, which equated to roughly 5% of the population. Some styles of Japanese sword fighting favor two swords, whereas others are more geared towards the use of the single longer katana blade. Samurai warriors always carried two swords, a katana and a wakizashi which are noticeably different in length (the katana being the longer of the two). From 1185 until 1868, Japan was ruled by samurai, some of which would roam around Japan fighting one another in battles to the death. All of these styles contain techniques from ancient samurai martial arts such as tojutsu, kenjutsu, iaijutsu and iaido. There are eight traditional styles of Japanese sword fighting. 8/22/2023 0 Comments 220 volt generator![]() This means a neutral that was sized for 15 amps, but has 30 amps flowing through it, may start a fire inside the house walls. For safety reasons, neutrals do not have over-current protection (circuit breakers or fuses). This could put 30 amps through a neutral that is sized for 15 amps. This is bad because it is possible to have 15 amp (from black wire) plus 15 amp (from red wire) flowing through the same shared neutral. However, if you connect the same single phase 120 VAC to both phases in your homes circuit breaker box, then any circuits that share a neutral will NOT have opposite phases, and the current will not cancel out. This means that a 15 amp load from black to neutral, and a 15 amp load from red to neutral, will have near 0 amps flowing on the shared neutral. This means that the current from the black wire when it gets to the neutral, will cancel the current from the red wire, when it gets to the neutral, as long as the two wires (black and red) are on opposite phases. The reason there is 240 Vac in the black to red measurement, is that the voltage in the black wire is opposite phase compared to the red wire. In this case the black and red wire share one white neutral wire. The black wire with respect to the red wire will show 240VAC. The red wire will also measure 120VAC with respect to neutral. The black wire will measure 120VAC with respect to neutral. Sometimes electricians will use a 3 wire, plus ground, romex cable with a black, red and white wire inside a single overall plastic jacket to supply power to several 120VAC loads. This means that if you have two circuit breakers directly next to each other vertically, and if you use a volt meter to measure the voltage across them (please be very careful) you will measure 240 VAC. Most house circuit breaker panels are setup for 240Vac made of two opposite phases of 120Vac. Here is the reason I recommended not connecting the same single phase 120VAC from your generator to both phases (L1 and L2) of your house's circuit breaker panel. 8/21/2023 0 Comments Chromecast screen mirroring![]() Step 2: Turn on your AirPlay 2-compatible streaming device. If it's an AirPlay 2-compatible TV, skip to step 3. These include newer smart TVs from Sony, TCL, Samsung, LG, or Vizio, and streaming devices like newer Rokus and Apple's own Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K. To mirror an iOS/iPadOS device to your TV, you'll need a smart TV or a streaming device that supports Apple's AirPlay 2 technology. How to mirror an iPhone or an iPad to your TV Once you send the link, the media starts to play on your TV and you'll usually be able to pause, skip forward, skip back, and stop the stream from the device you used to send the link.įor the purposes of this article, we'll only be discussing how to mirror your devices. When there's a particular movie, TV show, YouTube video, or song that you want to watch on your TV instead of your phone or tablet, this is typically known as "casting." Casting is like sending a link to a friend, except in this case, the friend is your smart TV or streaming media device. This can be super handy for when you want to use your TV as a monitor so that friends or family can see what you're seeing and follow along - it's awesome for planning trips or even to show someone how to accomplish a certain task on their own devices. "Mirroring," or "screen mirroring," turns your phone, tablet or computer into a mini TV station, broadcasting everything you see on your device's display (including interface items, multiple app windows, etc.) to your TV. Two kinds of streaming: Mirroring and castingīefore we dig into the ways you can stream from a phone or tablet to a TV, let's quickly go over what that really means. Stale data: The data in a materialized view is a point in time snapshot.Redshift materialized views are not without limitations. Incremental refresh: With certain limitations, Redshift lets you perform an incremental refresh (vs a full refresh) on a materialized view. ![]() Automatic query rewriting: For me this is an exciting feature! Redshift automatically rewrites your sql query to use a materialized view (if one exists) even if you do not explicitly use it, thereby improving performance. However, one bright spot, you can add columns to the internal tables with zero impact to existing materialized views. Adding columns: There are more DDL ( Data Definition Language) limitations on creating materialized views. This is similar to reading data from a table and helps avoid duplicating expensive table joins and aggregations. Materialized view on materialized view: Redshift lets you create materialized views based on materialized views you already created. In redshift you can create a materialized view to refer data in external tables (AWS S3) and even define one in terms of an existing view. More than just tables: Do you have files in AWS S3 you would like to reference? Or maybe you already have a materialized view and need a new one with some additional data?. ![]() Materialized views in Redshift have some noteworthy features. Think of a materialized view as the best of a table ( data storage) and a view ( stored sql query).Ī Redshift materialized views save us the most expensive resource of all – time. So, when you call the materialized view, all its doing is extracting data from the stored results. ![]() When a materialized view is created, the underlying SQL query gets executed right away and the output data stored. This is where materialized views come in handy. In other words, if a complex sql query takes forever to run, a view based on the same SQL will do the same. However, a view does not generate output data until it is executed. A view by the way, is nothing more than a stored SQL query you execute as frequently as needed. If this task needs to be repeated, you save the SQL script and execute it or may even create a SQL view. Sometimes this might require joining multiple tables, aggregating data and using complex SQL functions. We do this by writing SQL against database tables. To derive information from data, we need to analyze it. 8/21/2023 0 Comments The are pling games![]() Our goal is to create a meaningful whole experience, as the evidence shows that learning in this way is the most memorable, enjoyable and effective. In a similar way, game tasks need to be meaningful. A task should be closely connected to what learners need to do in real-life situations and to solve real problems. At Cambridge English, we talk a lot about authenticity when we design our exam tasks. Kids can usually see these types of games straight away! As one child said, “I like games, but not the boring ones.”Ī good educational game needs to be ‘authentic’. ‘Chocolate-covered broccoli’ is used to describe something that looks like a fun game on the outside, but really isn’t rewarding to play. There are many different types of games and some are better for learning than others. The balance of enjoyment and challenge makes games such amazing tools for learning. Through play, children develop thinking skills and abilities that help them to succeed in their future, including in language learning. We often think play is not a good use of time and children should be doing some ‘proper’ learning instead.īut doctors and educators believe that we should see play as serious learning. ![]() In our busy lives, it can be easy to forget the value of play. It allows them to experiment through trial and error, find solutions to problems, work out the best strategies, and build new confidence and skills. Play lets children practise what they know, and also what they don’t. Research has shown that games are essential for healthy development in early childhood and beyond. Games are fantastic for learning at any age, but they are particularly important for young learners. Our research shows that with the use of games, children of all ages have better engagement, participation, achievement and recall of their learning. Games are really valuable and our team at Cambridge English now seriously explores the benefits of video games for learning and assessment. Teachers use games for a fun start to the lesson, to practise vocabulary and grammar, or to practise language in ‘real-world’ situations through role-play. You may be wondering, why bring games and play into learning? Is it really a good idea? We often think of play as something children should do outside the classroom, just for fun. 8/21/2023 0 Comments Twitch tv heroes of the storm![]() The CCL isn't just killing it on the gameplay side. Whether it's nail-biting best-of-five series, Yasu hard-carrying Granit Gaming as Lucio, or Chilly Mountain riding Hogger to their first win of the season in week five, this league is absolutely bringing it. And thus far, the gameplay results have been phenomenal. Not only do teams feel like more concrete organizations, but the draft means that teams have to adapt to their new teammates' playstyles. And, while it had to be a change for old-school HOTs pros, as a viewer, I think the move makes a ton of sense. Obviously, the teams can still shuffle, but this model makes it feel more like a real sport. For the CCL, Jules and her team decided to select organizations to lead the teams and then draft players. In HGC, teams were often just created by a group of players that wanted to play together, which usually meant that some teams hopefully liked one another, but some could be volatile toward their own team. The team knows what it takes to make this event run like a well-oiled machine. Fortunately, several different grassroots organizations have done what they can to deliver the competitive version of Heroes that fans know and love. Yes, fans did get a trickle of content here and there, but for most, the glory days of Heroes of the Storm were over. Effectively, Activision-Blizzard put the game out to pasture without notice to the players who were making a living playing it. This esports event saw Blizzard producing some of the best competitive gameplay in the history of the game.įans all know where this is going. 8/21/2023 0 Comments Tayasui sketches import![]() Wacom Bamboo Sketch: the best sketching stylus for iPhoneĪlthough not as elegant as Apple’s stylus (and quite a bit weightier), Wacom’s Bamboo Sketch ( $80/£75) is a good bet for sketching on iPhone – or for when you want a single stylus that can be used with all of your Apple devices. But it makes up for that by being a much better device, pairing in an instant, charging when magnetically attached to the iPad, and including a smart double-tap function for switching tools. The second-generation Apple Pencil ( $129/£119) works only with the latest iPad Pro models that don’t have a Home button. The original Apple Pencil ( $99/£89) works with the 6th-gen iPad (released in 2018), and any iPad Pro with a Home button. Apple’s scribbling stick works wonderfully with a huge range of apps, and its pressure sensitivity affords you a very fine degree of control should you need it.ĭo, however, be mindful there are two generations of Apple Pencil, and you must ensure you get the right one. On compatible iPads, nothing beats Apple Pencil for a combination of responsiveness and effectiveness. Apple Pencil: the best sketching stylus for iPad However, if you prefer the feel of a pencil or pen, and also want a bit more precision when sketching, we recommend you invest in a stylus. Check it out in the App Store. The apps and accessories you need for doodles and digital masterpieces alike Some users have compared Tayasui Sketches to Paper (they both offer the ability to sketch, along with pinching gestures), but it should be noted for its unique qualities as an application. The application is also super fast, using advanced mathematical formulas to take full advantage of the iPad drawing screen. ![]() You also have the ability to add dotted and cross-hatching patterns to areas designated by shapes. The simulated tools range from mechanical drawing pens and markers to calligraphy/watercolor brushes, and an airbrush tool. The application maintains the skeuomorphic design for accessing the drawing tools and the various pinch and zoom gestures for navigating various stages and layers. On the base layer, you have the option to import a brand new background to begin a new project. The layers are offered as three default layers that come with the option to add a multiply mode, merge layers, and/or hide layers. Layers were added to provide that extra level of control when applying various effects and textures to your drawings. You also have the option to import images from your camera library. You can now add backgrounds to your projects, some of which are available as presets, including the ability to customize a color background. For example, when you erase with a slow motion, you get a fine erase line (coinciding mostly with areas that require fine detail) and when you erase with a fast motion, you eliminate a much larger area of the canvas. In addition to the range of circular icons, you will now find a tear drop shape, which adds a dynamic function to erasing. The dynamic eraser option now shows up on the brush menu. ![]() ![]() In the latest iteration, Version 2.0, Tayasui Sketches introduced online sharing options and some added features to enhance the overall experience.
